Another Cave Site
This cave site is a little harder to find. It is still located in Yomitan Village but you need to do some walking to get there. You have to pass through neighbors properties, so we respected the owners and kept the noise down. As we passed through the properties we then entered the jungle area. As you can see with the pictures, as we turned to corner through the jungle, it opened up to the cave entrance. This cave is famous, so here goes the short version. As the Battle for Okinawa began, the villagers were told that the Americans will do all kinds of atrocities to them, so they hid in the caves. Over 1,000 Okinawan's hid in this cave alone. When the Americans arrived at the cave entrance, they knew that people were hiding in them. So they tried to coach the people out. It did not work. There was a Hawaiian Japanese American Soldier who was there and through the Japanese language he encouraged them all to come out. They came out and he was a hero. All of there lives were saved. When they came out, the American Soldiers gave them food and protection and did not harm them.
There is a need today, for Christians to share the Love of Jesus Christ with the Okinwan people, and to lead them into a personal relationship with the Savior Jesus. Please continue to keep us in your prayers as we share His love with them.
