Christian Hula Class

Today the Bible College Students had a real treat, Teresa from Ishigaki Island came and taught the students Christian Hawaiian Hula Dancing. It was so much fun. Everyone had a great time, and those students can sure dance. Thursday night will be another class and it will be open to any Japanese or English speaking people. Teresa's vision is that it would be a real outreach to show people the Love of Jesus Christ.

You are correct! There is no such thing as Christian Hula. Professing Christians should have nothing to do with Hula for many biblical reasons. If you are talking about Chuck Smith having a fit about "Christian Hula"... There are several Calvary Chapels on the Hawaiian islands (if not all) that have "hula" ministries. The Calvary Chapel magazine has had one of these "hula" ministries on the cover of their magazine (Issue 33—Fall 2007). Pastor Chuck has been to at least Calvary Chapel Honolulu and I am quite sure that he is not ignorant of the "hula" ministry that is happening. It is scary to think that professing Christianity can take a pagan form of worship of the goddess Laka and Pele and "transform" it to the glory of Christ which is just not to be so. I tried to talk to different Calvary Pastors about this and all they said, is that hula could be "transformed". This is false. Much like Catholic doctrine saying that Paganism can be sanctified by the church. Calvary Chapel will not change or give up the hula. Their flesh loves it too much. Your best bet is to separate from Calvary Chapel and follow Jesus Christ and the Word of God.

To the above comments:
I believe there are new hula dances that having nothing to do with their native orgins, expect the name hula. These hula dances were created with worshiping God in mind. It could be compared to sign language worship.
