Old Tongue and Groove

It is amazing to see how the Japanese carpenters work. As you can see, the way they joined wood for maximum strength was to cut grooves into the wood that they hold better. Now this is time consuming but good craftsmanship. There was this huge 6X12 beam that held the wooden structure together. While I was taking it apart I realized that it was held together with this special tongue and groove. It fit perfectly and I could not separate it. Then I realized how it was fit together. Quint Betts would really appreciate this kind of work.
