Sunset Beach: North Shore

DSC00170 Another famous surfing spot in Hawaii, Sunset Beach. Just a few days ago, the surf was epic, boasting waves up to 40 feet high! When the waves reach 30 ft, they host the “Eddie”. It is named after the famous Hawaiian Surfer Eddie Aikau because he was not afraid to surf any wave no matter how big it is, thus coining the phrase “Eddie would go”. Once the waves begin to hit, famous surfers from all over the world drop whatever they are doing and make the pilgrimage to the North Shore. The tournament is not held every year, again only when the waves reach at least 30ft. But this years champion was from Southern California (I am sorry I forgot his name), but the paper wrote that he one over his inspiration Kelly Slater who took second at the event. The waves have subsided the last couple of days.
